Dr James Wilkinson successfully completed the first two successful procedures to treat patients with resistant hypertension (high blood pressure that cannot be controlled with tablets) at Southampton General Hospital today. The procedure is called Renal Denervation (RDN) and involves using radio-frequency to burn nerves in the arteries supplying the kidney to treat high blood pressure. Dr Iain Simpson and Prof Huon Gray are heavily involved with this programme and will be doing this procedure.
