Dr John Rawlins

John Rawlins is a consultant Interventional cardiologist with a specialist interest in complex coronary and trans catheter valve intervention at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) NHs trust, having been appointed in 2016. He is one of the trans-catheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) team.
 
He qualified from Imperial College school of medicine in 2003, having completed a BSc in Physiology at University College London in 2001. The majority of his medical training has been undertaken in hospitals across London, and he was awarded membership of the Royal College of Medicine (MRCP) in 2006. In 2012, he was awarded his Research Doctorate (MD(Res)) from Kings college London, working with Prof S Sharma, describing the cardiac response to exercise in afro-carribean athletes. During this time, Dr Rawlins developed his interest in cardiomyopathy, in particular relating to the identification of potential pathology in athletes. He is currently joint clinical lead for cardiomyopathy at UHS. A keen athlete himself, he has competed at both national and International level at triathlon and athletics, and completed an IRONMAN in 2010.
 
Dr Rawlins completed his interventional training at UHS and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, and has published numerous articles on both cardiac adaptation to exercise and complex coronary Intervention. He has been on the faculty for a number of prestigious national and international meetings.
 
He met his wife whilst working at Kings College, and they have two boys. He continues to try and get out cycling and running when not standing at a touchline cheering on his children.
