An ICD box change replaces the pulse generator when the battery reaches the end of its life.
The existing leads are connected to a new device, which is implanted in the same position under the skin. The procedure is invariably a day case procedure done under local anaesthetic.
This is a routine procedure with a relatively short recovery period. Your consultant will advise you about driving regulations post box-change.
