Why Is It Needed?
Pacemaker batteries typically last between 6 and 15 years depending on usage. Replacement is required before the battery is fully depleted to ensure continuous heart rhythm support.
What Happens During the Procedure?
Under local anaesthetic, a small incision is made over the existing pacemaker site. The old device is removed and replaced with a new generator, which is then connected to the existing leads.
Recovery
This is usually a shorter procedure than the original implant, with most patients returning home the same day or after a short stay.
