Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR) is an advanced structural heart procedure designed to treat severe mitral valve disease using a minimally invasive catheter-based approach, whereby a TAVI valve is placed inside the mitral valve to create a new working mitral valve.
TMVR is typically considered for patients with significant mitral valve dysfunction who may not be suitable candidates for conventional surgical valve replacement or repair. Currently TMVR is not available at the Spire but we hope to establish this service by 2027 and it is available on the NHS at UHS.

A replacement valve is delivered to the heart through a catheter-based system and positioned within the diseased mitral valve.
